The media is full of frightening images and ideas about what it means to have a serious mental illness. As a society, we have all paid the price for these distorted and inaccurate descriptions, but those who have experienced psychosis, and those who suffer from disruptive behaviour disorders, have likely been hurt the most.
Our goal for this module is to provide a remedy to the inaccurate information and misperceptions about psychotic disorders, encouraging open and factual conversations about the topic, especially within your school’s setting. We also intend for participants to develop strong and relevant skills for working well with students struggling with psychotic issues or behaviours.
Instructor: Carolyn FitzGerald, assistant professor, Faculty of Education, Wilfrid Laurier University, PhD (clinical psychology).
