Course Description

Wholistic Healing Practices and Colonial Trauma Certificate, Module 1 "Decolonizing Trauma Work" is brought to you by the Centre for Indigegogy.

This one-day module will focus on un-packing internal and external displays of ongoing colonialism. This session sets a foundation for other modules at The Centre of Indigegogy, and participants will be able to apply a decolonizing lens.

 

Participants will be introduced and consider how colonial policies have played their part in the Cultural Genocide of Indigenous Peoples.

 

Participants will begin to acknowledge how Canada’s policies have contributed negatively to social indicators of health and well-being in Indigenous communities.

 

Participants will build an understanding of the systemic and structural indicators of colonialism and how it continues to inflict harm on Indigenous communities.

 

Participants will use circle methodology to envision wholistic healing practices in the contexts of colonial trauma and how colonization has impacted Indigenous people’s emotional, spiritual, mental and physical being

Learner Outcomes

  • East: Consider how the politics and the colonization of Turtle Island has caused harm to Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ecosystems.

     

    South: Acknowledge how Canada’s policies have contributed negatively to social indicators of health and well-being in Indigenous communities.

     

    West: Build knowledge of the ongoing colonial trauma faced by Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island.

     

    North: Envision a wholistic practices within a colonial trauma lens.
