Course Description

Hours: 12

Join us in this online Professional Development course as we explore the latest research and clinical applications in attachment, trauma and interpersonal neurobiology, emphasizing an integrative understanding and approach to working with clients in need of relational healing. We recognize the critical role that healthy attachment and relationships play as protective factors, and conversely, the deep impact on clients who struggle with relational capacity due to unresolved trauma.

In this course, we will examine attachment through a trauma lens and introduce participants to the following key areas:

  • The impact of trauma on attachment formation and relational functioning.
  • The neuroscience of attachment, trauma and the nervous system.
  • How attachment styles and nervous system states interact (hyperarousal, hyperarousal and window of tolerance).
  • Internal working models, schemas and implicit memories.
  • Regulation through relationship and attunement (co-regulation).
  • Clinical strategies for relational healing, including memory reconsolidation.

Throughout this six-week course you will learn how to utilize the therapeutic relationship to help clients experience relational safety, where the client’s nervous system can begin to recognize and internalize cues of safety, connection and trust. You’ll explore how to integrate these insights into your existing therapeutic approach, enhancing your ability to foster healing in clients with complex relational trauma.
