Course Description

Hours: 12

Clinical supervision has two central purposes. One is to foster, build and advance the supervisee’s professional development (skills, knowledge, attitudes). The other is to improve and ensure client welfare (gatekeeping). The supervisor has the privilege of guiding and leading the supervisee to collaboratively meeting these goals and the specific additional goals of the supervisee. Creating a safe and open supervision relationship and environment is crucial. The supervisor must be intentional in creating a safe space for open dialogue, growth, addressing power dynamics and asking for feedback.  This workshop will explore potential challenges in supervision and ways to transform them into opportunities for growth. Issues such as supervisee anxiety, the need to feel and appear competent and competency issues will also be explored. The workshop will additionally focus on discussing and articulating the structures and conditions that can proactively prevent and effectively deal with challenges.
