Course Description

Hours: 12

This two-day workshop will focus on how to write excellent clinical notes. Day one will focus on the regulatory, legal and agency requirements of notes, as well as the pragmatic aspects of clinical documentation including:

  • What needs to be included in a clinical file.
  • How to write notes that meet the needs of various bodies.
  • How to write clear, succinct and focused notes in a timely manner.

We will also focus here on what does NOT need to be included in a note. Day two will focus on the power of the clinical note, both in terms of social work documentation as a tool of oppression, and more importantly as a tool that aids in liberation and change. This day will explore collaborative note taking practices, therapeutic letters, and other creative uses of clinical documentation.
