Intimate partnerships are an important social context that offer a vital space for growth and intimacy, but violence within these relationships creates an unsafe environment that stifles both personal development and connection.

While there is a wealth of research on intimate partner violence (IPV), including debates over definitions, causes and outcomes, one truth remains: IPV has profound and lasting impacts on individuals, families and communities.  As intimate partner violence continues to be a significant personal, social and political issue, it is essential to understand the nuances and challenges that underlie this widespread concern. 

This two-day professional development course aims to deepen participants’ understanding of intimate partner violence and will:

• Explore the impact of IPV on individuals and families, with a focus on the historical and social contexts that shape current understandings.
• Review the range of outcomes resulting from violence within intimate relationships.
• Highlight common approaches used in addressing IPV.
• Examine how IPV intersects with special populations and their unique experiences.
• Enhance awareness of complexities specific to accountability and change.

Please be advised that although this course is designed for mental health professionals, it may be challenging to navigate on a personal level. This training is not recommended for anyone who is currently experiencing their own trauma as some of the content may be activating.
