Introduction to the Foundations of Sex Therapy is a two-day intensive training that provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the foundational concepts, theories and practical approaches in sex therapy. This Professional Development course emphasizes the bio-psycho-social model of psychosexual therapy and equips practitioners with skills to address a variety of sexual concerns. Through theoretical knowledge, case studies and skills-based exercises, participants will explore essential topics such as desire, sexual diversity, trauma, kink and BDSM, as well as develop strategies for fostering intimacy and communication within the therapeutic setting.

Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss key concepts and theories related to sex therapy, including the bio-psycho-social model and intersystem approaches.
  • Examine how societal attitudes and unconscious narratives shape sexual behaviors and experiences.
  • Apply trauma-informed care principles to psychosexual therapy, particularly in the context of shame, boundary development and emotional regulation.
  • Analyze the therapeutic needs of clients from diverse sexual and gender backgrounds, particularly erotically marginalized groups.
  • Evaluate different sexual response models, including linear and alternative frameworks, to expand the understanding of desire, arousal and orgasm in therapy.
  • Create therapeutic tools, such as a sexual menu, to help clients safely explore and communicate their sexual preferences and boundaries.
