Course Description

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is the gold standard for treating anxiety disorders and symptoms. This two-day advanced course will focus on assessment, treatment planning and key short-term, brief CBT interventions for anxiety disorders. Specific topics include: 

  • Introduction to the CBT model of anxiety.
  • Brief review of symptoms, screening and assessment tools for generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.
  • Five core interventions to treat anxiety:
    • five factor model of anxiety
    • monitoring/thought records 
    • review of the role of relaxation techniques and CBT best practice
    • exposure response prevention (for each disorder)
    • cognitive distortions of anxiety (anxiety predictions) and how to refute these

Prerequisites

To be eligible for CBT Level II, you must have completed Level I: Fundamentals of CBT or Level I: CBT for Chronic Illness and Diabetes Management (or an approved equivalent).
