Course Description

Hours: 12

Parent/caregiver involvement has time and time again been connected with greater treatment outcomes for children and adolescents. In this Level II two-day course you will learn:

  • How and when to include caregivers.
  • The various roles caregivers can take in the CBT process.
  • What caregiver specific approach and interventions complement the work you are doing directly with your child or adolescent client for a variety of clinical and sub-clinical presenting concerns (i.e. psychoeducation, monitoring tools, behaviour modification, exposure therapy support, etc.).
  • How to equip parents to continue CBT work outside the therapy room in a variety of settings.
  • How to effectively address caregiver behaviours that may be maintaining a child or adolescent’s mental health symptoms through the utilization of the CBT family maintenance cycle.

Additionally, we provide an overview of solutions to some of the most common barriers to caregiver involvement so we can maximize gains for each and every one of our young clients. Numerous resources for caregivers will be included.
