0543 - Brain Injury and Addiction: Understanding and Supporting Complex Clients
Course Description
This Professional Development course explores the complex intersection of brain injury and addiction, equipping participants with a deeper understanding of dual diagnosis and its impact on client care. Participants will gain knowledge of brain injury types, the relationship between brain injury and substance abuse and effective strategies for supporting individuals with these co-occurring conditions.
The course offers evidence-based approaches to screening and treatment. Key topics include:
- The neurophysiology of brain injury and addiction.
- Behavioral and cognitive changes post-injury.
- Screening and treatment tools for dual diagnosis.
- Treatment strategies, including trauma-informed care and relapse prevention.
Through interactive modules, case studies and discussions, participants will develop the practical skills needed to enhance client outcomes and provide holistic, compassionate care. This course fosters a collaborative learning environment, encouraging participants to share experiences and explore the latest research in the field.
