0615 - Women, Pain, and the Nervous System
Course Description
Hours: 6
This training explores the often-silenced intersection of chronic pain, trauma and women’s mental health. With a focus on conditions commonly experienced by women—including endometriosis, fibromyalgia, pelvic pain and autoimmune disorders—the course illuminates the mind-body connection and the emotional landscape of living with persistent, misunderstood pain.
Participants will engage with insights from neurobiology, psychology and gender studies to understand how pain is shaped not just by physiology, but by personal history, cultural context and systemic bias. The session also explores how gendered assumptions in healthcare have contributed to misdiagnosis, dismissal and inadequate treatment for women and gender-diverse individuals living with chronic pain.
This course offers practical tools for nervous system-informed care, trauma-sensitive practice and attuned therapeutic presence. It invites clinicians to hold both the emotional and physical dimensions of pain with compassion, curiosity and a deep respect for bodily wisdom.
