0618 - SEEN in Full Colour: Applying the CULTURE© Framework to Support the Mental Health of Black and Racialized Women
Course Description
Hours: 12
A two-day immersive training for professionals committed to providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-driven care for Black and racialized women. Grounded in the CULTURE© Framework and Africentric healing approaches.
SEEN in Full Colour is a transformative professional development experience designed for those working with Black and racialized women in therapeutic, clinical and community care contexts. Participants will engage in a two-day, interactive training that weaves together evidence-based modalities, Africentric healing approaches and culturally grounded care strategies using the CULTURE© Framework — a proprietary model rooted in Community, Understanding, Liberation, Truth, Ubuntu, Restoration, and Equity.
This workshop offers a healing-centered lens through which to understand and address how race, gender, intergenerational trauma and systemic oppression uniquely impact the mental health of racialized women.
Participants will explore how to apply:
- ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy): to promote values-based action and psychological flexibility.
- EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy): to support secure attachment and emotional responsiveness.
- IFS (Internal Family Systems): to address trauma through culturally affirming part-work.
- CBT and DBT: adapted for the lived realities of Black and racialized women.
- Polyvagal Theory and Somatic Techniques: to restore nervous system safety and body-based healing.
- Africentric principles such as Nommo, Nguzo Saba, and Ubuntu, to ground clinical practices in community, language, and cultural wisdom
Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the intersection of race, gender, trauma and mental health as it relates to Black and racialized women.
- Apply the CULTURE© Framework to clinical and community-based mental health interventions.
- Integrate evidence-based tools (ACT, EFT, IFS, DBT, somatic) with culturally responsive and Africentric approaches.
- Engage in reflective practice to explore the impact of systemic barriers and clinician positionality on therapeutic relationships.
- Identify and address racial microaggressions, burnout and internalized oppression in both clients and care environments.
- Build a culturally affirming mental health toolkit that centers psychological safety, belonging and self-leadership.
This training is ideal for mental health clinicians, social workers, community support workers, educators, nurses, clergy, and allied professionals who support — or seek to better support — the healing and mental health of Black and racialized women. No prior experience with ACT, EFT or IFS is required — only a willingness to engage deeply, reflect critically, and practice holistically.
