0698 - Direct Interventions Using Seeking Safety Techniques
Course Description
Hours: 12
Many Canadians struggle with unwanted behaviours, such as social media/doom strolling, online gambling, gaming/internet overuse, impulsive shopping habits, risky stock trading practices, pornography addiction, and so on. Often, these behaviours are not addressed by traditional therapy models and therapists report a lack of resources and clinical techniques to treat these behaviours.
Seeking Safety is an evidence-based, structured treatment that provides concrete instructions for therapists on how to facilitate sessions with a trauma-informed lens. Each Seeking Safety therapy session consists of a specific topic or theme, along with instructions for therapists on how to guide individual and group sessions, implement in-session exercises, reinforce safe coping skills and introduce weekly commitment exercises.
In this two-day Professional Development course, we will explore some of these topics and practice how to facilitate a session using worksheets and other learning tools to successfully run a structured Seeking Safety session. Topics covered in this training include:
- safe coping skills
- red and green flags
- coping with triggers
- grounding
- compassion
- honesty
Note: This training will not provide participants with a Seeking Safety certification. This is an introduction to Seeking Safety techniques provided by a facilitator who is a certified Seeking Safety therapist. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to provide Seeking Safety therapy topics covered in this course with clients. To learn more about Seeking Safety visit seekingsafety.org.
