Course Description

Hours: 12

The relationship between trauma and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is complex and often misunderstood. This Professional Development course examines the current evidence regarding trauma and OCD, while helping clinicians differentiate trauma-related symptoms from obsessive-compulsive processes. Participants will explore how traumatic experiences can influence OCD symptom development, maintenance and treatment planning.

Topics that will be explored include:

  • diagnostic clarification
  • sequencing treatment when PTSD and OCD co-occur
  • integrating ERP with trauma-informed care
  • addressing safety behaviours
  • managing emotional activation during treatment
  • avoiding common clinical errors

Through case discussions and practical decision-making frameworks, clinicians will gain greater confidence working with individuals presenting with both trauma and OCD.
