Course Description

This two-day module will focus on Indigenous ways of awakening and healing Spirit within. Participants will begin to learn about their own relationship to Spirit and how their Spirits inform their practice. This module, taught by an Anishinaabe Elder, will lift up the teachings of Spirit and engage participants through circle and ceremony. This module focuses on Anishinaabe knowledge and 8 Grandmother teachings to foster wholistic approaches to healing, especially in the realm of colonial trauma care. 

Course Outline

This module will: 

  • Focus on the 8 Grandmother teachings to demonstrate a wholistic approach to healing. 

  • Lift up Anishinaabe teachings and knowledge, especially as they relate to colonial trauma responses and care. 

  • Explore how relationship(s) to Spirit play a role in addressing colonial trauma. 

Learner Outcomes

Participants will: 

  • Enhance their sense of self and identity as wholistic healing practitioners. 

  • Experience teachings surrounding Spirit dishes and its meaning in wholistic practice. 

  • Better understand the 8 Grandmother teachings and how these teachings help in providing spiritually and culturally informed trauma care. 

Notes

This module is mandatory for the completion of the Wholistic Healing Practices & Colonial Trauma certificate.

Recommendations

This workshop makes up 14 out of 84 hours required to receive the Wholistic Healing Practices and Colonial Trauma Certificate. Modules 1, 2 and 4 are required core modules.
