Excellent clinical supervision is the backbone of effective social work practice. In this two-day workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of clinical supervision. Emphasis will be placed on ethical postures and pragmatic practices that contribute to supervisory relationships that build social worker competence, confidence, accountability and professionalism. Participants will be exposed to current debates and best practices in the field of clinical supervision, as well as concrete strategies for structuring supervisory relationships, implementing supervisory interventions through a range of practices (such as direct observation, video, audio, case note and verbal summary reviews), responding effectively to legal and ethical issues in supervision and in supervisees’ clinical work, and ensuring sensitivity to diversity, context, oppression, justice.
