Course Description

Hours: 12

The grief counselling workshop will take an in-depth look at both past and current models of grief counselling with an approach of learning new skills. This workshop will explore how to support the grieving person in their search for meaning and purpose related to their loss. Contemporary approaches such as attachment-based and narrative models that support continuing bonds, as well as  non-pathologizing assessment and intervention choices will be presented. Case studies will facilitate the application of theory and interventions for use in bereavement work. The use of expressive art, ritual, and storytelling will be discussed. Significant time will also be devoted to the importance of therapist self-awareness and supervision while providing grief counselling and support. Participation is encouraged through exploration of personal loss histories and small group work using case studies.
