Course Description

This seminar course examines the theory and practice of clinical supervision utilizing various approaches in reflecting on the supervisory relationship, clinical approach, ethical issues, intersectionalities, challenges in supervision and evaluation. The course addresses contextual issues including student and client contexts.

Students bring professional experience both as a clinician and as someone who has experienced supervision. This course provides opportunity to read about the theory and practice of supervision, reflect on their personal practice and experience of supervision and develop their own theoretical understanding of the supervisory process. In response to the course readings, discussions and synchronous chats, students will develop their philosophy and theoretical understanding of supervision.

This is a non-credit course and will not be eligible to be counted towards a credit course in the future.

Refunds

  • Up to 10 days before the start of course: Full refund less 15% administrative fee.

  • One to nine days before start of course: Full refund less 30% administrative fee.

  • No refunds will be issued as of the first day of the course.

Course Outline

The course will run online primarily in an asynchronous format. Students will complete weekly readings and engage in the online discussion forums. Students can expect to spend a minimum of four hours per week online. There will be two synchronous chats in the course to provide opportunities for discussion of the course material together (4 hours/week plus 2 synchronous chats = 36 hours). 

Prerequisites

Prerequisites to the course include a completed Master’s degree and the requisite clinical experience needed for the regulatory college or professional association the student wishes to become a supervisor.
