“Mindfulness-based relapse prevention (MBRP) is a program integrating mindfulness meditation practices with traditional relapse prevention (RP).”1 MBRP blends meditation practices with cognitive behavioral relapse prevention skills. It is designed as an aftercare program and is conducted in a group therapy format. This two-day professional development course will provide an overview of the eight weekly sessions. The purpose of the MBRP program is to increase awareness of triggers, habitual patterns and “automatic” reactions that can lead to relapse. Participants will be introduced and guided through key practices within the model. *Please note this is an experiential professional development course.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define and describe relapse, the relapse process and key concepts (triggers, cravings, high-risk situations).
- Explain the program model, its background, theory, structure and special considerations.
- Provide an overview of each session within the eight-session program.
- Describe key practices (urge surfing and SOBER Breathing).
- Summarize how to use the group-based content in individual sessions.
- Highlight important considerations for delivering MBRP on a virtual platform.
