Like many other presenting issues, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is a highly recommended course of treatment for substance and alcohol use disorders. Building on your foundational knowledge and practice of CBT, this CBT for Addictions course will provide specialization and focus for:

  • case conceptualization of various addictions and with comorbid disorders.
  • teaching how to help clients identify activating factors of, and how to respond to, cravings.
  • the very specific cognitive distortions that perpetuate and maintain addictive beliefs and behaviours.

Lesson content will also focus on somatic psychotherapy interventions, eliminating secrecy and shame, family and caregiver support, CBT addiction groups and relapse prevention. 

READINGS AND DISCUSSIONS
Participants in the online CBT courses should plan on four to seven hours per week dedicated to readings, discussions and quizzes.

Prerequisites

To be eligible for CBT Level II, you must have completed Level I: Fundamentals of CBT or Level I: CBT for Chronic Illness and Diabetes Management (or an approved equivalent).
