Course Description

Chronic disease, illness and pain impact the lives of as many as 25% of people at any given time. Studies show the mind body connection to greatly impact recovery and pain experience, as well as inflammatory responses. CBT for Chronic Illness and Diabetes Management will focus on how to use foundational and advanced CBT techniques to decrease experiences of pain, manage the physical and mental impacts of chronic illness, and improve diabetes management and outcomes. Research, psychosocial assessment, conceptualization, cognitive restructuring, exposure therapy and behaviour change interventions will all focus specifically on chronic illness and diabetes management. Additional lessons will focus on caregiver support and burn out, building a collaborative relationship between patients and healthcare professionals and diabetes management for Indigenous populations. You will complete the course with thorough individual and group treatment plans and strategies to immediately begin helping improve the quality of life for persons struggling with the mental and physical impacts of chronic pain, chronic illness and diabetes and provide hope for improved long-term health.

There are no required textbooks for this course. All required material will be provided during the course.
