Course Description

Hours: 12

Sometimes words are not enough.

This two-day workshop will introduce drama therapy as a means of working with people who have experienced individual or collective trauma. Drama therapy interventions allow clients to explore themes in a different way -- in a way that might feel safer, less direct, more embodied or more soothing than talk therapy.

We will spend some time with an overview of four drama therapy modalities: sociometry, the five phase model, role theory, projective work and developmental transformations. We will then introduce some interventions that you can integrate into your talk therapy work with individuals and groups. This workshop will require you to actively participate in short activities and discussions to develop an embodied understanding of the practice of drama therapy. Don’t worry, no drama experience expected!

A reminder that the term Drama Therapist is a protected term under the North American Drama Therapy Association and this workshop provides an introduction to the practice of drama therapy. More information about how to become a drama therapist or creative arts therapist will be provided at the end of the training for those interested.
