Course Description

Hours: 12

As the population ages significantly in the next several years, it is crucial that practitioners have a thorough understanding of the aging population and associated clinical issues that may arise. This course provides a holistic overview of issues that are relevant in working with older populations, including dementia, capacity determination, caregiving, addiction, mental health, end-of-life care and family dynamics. Additionally, an understanding of resources to support clinical practice will be part of the curriculum. Participants will examine their role in providing support to individuals and families throughout the aging process, including understanding ageism, bias and legal implications of working with older adults. Participants will be able to apply the skills learned in the course through the use of vignettes and group discussions.
