0416 - Level II: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for Eating Disorders
Course Description
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is the leading evidence-based treatment for eating disorders. The core psychopathology of eating disorders, the over-evaluation of shape and weight, is cognitive in nature. In this course, CBT for Eating Disorders, you will learn facts and theories about the nature of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and other eating disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS). This course includes a comprehensive overview of the symptoms of eating disorders, why any person can develop an eating disorder, what drives the person to manifest a preoccupation to eating-disordered behaviours and how the CBT-E approach is considered to be the best treatment for different types of eating disorders. It will focus on developing competence in implementing the key procedures of CBT-E, including experiential elements, with a particular focus on developing the practical skills of CBT-E. CBT-E uses a variety of generic cognitive and behavioural interventions (such as addressing cognitive biases); unlike some forms of CBT, it favours the use of strategic changes in behaviour to modify thinking rather than focusing only on direct cognitive restructuring. CBT-E is an empirically supported treatment approach that is suitable for all forms of eating disorders and one that is highly individualized.
