Course Description

In dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), case conceptualization uses the principles and the protocols of the treatment to assess client goals and behaviours, develop a targeted treatment plan, and provide accurate interventions that ultimately bring the client closer to their worth living goals. Case conceptualization in DBT is an iterative process, starting with the initial orientation sessions and continuing to be refined throughout the entirety of treatment.

The purpose of this Professional Development course is to guide participants in conducting comprehensive DBT assessment during the first four orientation sessions, using the core principles and dialectical strategies to develop an initial case conceptualization.

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Understand stages of treatment.
  • Develop target hierarchy.
  • Apply biosocial theory to assessment procedures.
  • Conduct behaviour chain analysis.
  • Identify key controlling variables that are maintaining the pervasive dysregulated behaviour.
  • Develop targeted treatment interventions using DBT solution analysis and change strategies.

It his highly recommended that participants complete DBT Case Conceptualization AND DBT Individual Therapy together as knowledge from case conceptualization is directly applied to individual therapy and will maximize learning.
